Sundays with the family can bring you closer rather it be over the phone or sharing a family meal.
Usually every first Sunday of the month, my family and I have dinner together. We use this time as a catch up day. We’re all very busy so we don’t see each other often, well, I make it sound like my parents live in another state. What I mean is, aside from seeing each other about once a month, my parents and I and my brother don’t see each other beyond phone calls and text messages. My brother and I live 10 minutes apart, while my parents live 40 minutes from us. It’s still a better situation than how most people have it, but with our day to day lives and busy weekends, it proves to be a little more difficult to have regular meet ups.
That’s why we established monthly dinners. My parents usually have my brother and I over and it’s our time as a family to relax and hang out together. We catch up on everyone’s lives over an amazing meal prepared by my mom.
This lady can cook! She makes the most delightful Taiwanese-Chinese dishes and that is one thing I miss most about living at home. My mom’s cooking is top notch and she’s so good at it. I hope I can be like her one day. Although, I’m trying, I know I’m nowhere near her capabilities. Everything she makes is tantalizing for your taste buds. Spending lots of time in the kitchen with my mom as a kid is where I mainly got my love for food. If you ever get the chance to be lucky enough to taste my mom’s food, you’ll understand what I’m talking about! Ask Jason — he eats it all!
Below is just a snapshot of what a Sunday dinner entails. Mouthwatering, eh?
I encourage you to have monthly dinners with your family, if possible. It really does bring the family closer and even if you don’t have the chance to do that, give them a call or text at least once a week. I’m sure your mother will love hearing from her baby!
