Throwback Thursday: Miami

Remember back in April when I went to Miami? And how I never posted pictures of my trip and all that I ate? Well, that’s why this post is a “throwback” because I’m going back in time and finally showing pictures and giving ya ideas on where to eat if you ever venture to Miami! The picture above is on Ocean Drive in South Beach. It’s right before you get to the beach and where all the art deco buildings are (behind me).

The ocean was gorgeous but I have no idea what was up with all the dang seaweed. It was disgusting. It kept washing up into piles on the beach, as you can see in the picture. At least after you got through the seaweed pit, the water was beautiful.

We ate at Yardbird the first night. Thanks to Julius, this was one of our favorite meals. It’s a upscale Southern restaurant and they had such FRESH food. They said their ingredients were all local and farm-fresh. You could really taste the difference too and every dish we got (they were large enough to share between two people), we weren’t disappointed. They were so good!!

I thought this was a cute napkin ring.

This was lighting inside the restaurant above some tables. I LOVED this! It’d be so cool to recreate that in my house.

Lil’ Bit of “Meat Loaf”: slow braised short rib, garlic mashed potatoes, chunky housemade tomato jam, smoked onion Bourbon jus, fried okra

Butter Lettuce & Grilled Mango Salad: Swank Farms butter lettuce, fresh mango, smoked pecans, benne seed vinaigrette

Shrimp n’Grits: Florida shrimp, crisp Virginia ham, Adluh SC stone ground grits

Mama’s Apple Pie: buttermilk ice cream, pickled raisins – the buttermilk ice cream was to DIE for. I want to make my own now.

This was the challah french toast that the Front Porch Cafe was known for. It was a HUGE platter, but insanely delicious.

THIS sandwich was a must. It’s at the La Sandwicherie off Collins in South Beach (our hotel was right across the street from it, awesome!) and we were recommended to get the Saucisson Sec (French salami) on croissant with brie. We got it loaded with everything and I mean, just by looking at it, doesn’t it make your mouth water? It was such fresh meat and full of flavor. The brie really made the sandwich so creamy and awesome.

Wohoo! So that was my little food tour when we were in Miami. We spent the rest of our time in West Palm Beach with my aunt so we cooked at home and didn’t splurge to go out to eat cause we felt so nasty after eating so badly while we were in Miami! :)

Tara @ Chip Chip Hooray - May 17, 2012 - 9:32 AM

Oh my gaaaaahd. Okay, first off, I totally never thought a photo would have me craving shrimp and grits. Congratulations. (Also, my grits-loving boyfriend sends you his many thanks.) And UM that French toast. I guess I need to go back to Miami, stat!

I was recently in Miami Julie! The seaweed was definitely annoying. Ocean Drive was so much fun. I ate such great food there – A LOT of mango. And mango mojitos of course :)

Beautiful pics!

So glad you’re sharing your pictures! Those jar lights are so cute. If you do recreate them, you should totally do a tutorial.

After reading this post I’m craving a vacation and short ribs! Looks like a great trip :) We went to Miami once but didn’t have time to take in many restaurants so I definitely need to go again!

Katie - May 18, 2012 - 1:48 PM

Love your pictures! I don’t get to Miami often but the next time I’m down there I’m definitely going to eat at Yard Bird!

The seaweed washes up on shore like that because of the change in the tide… its unpredictable and can happen at any time. :(

claire @ the realistic nutritionist - May 18, 2012 - 3:52 PM

I LOVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVE Miami!!!

Erin @ Dinners, Dishes, and Desserts - May 18, 2012 - 3:56 PM

I want everything! All the food looks incredible! I could do without the seaweed, I guess. That stuff freaks me out :)

Gerry @ Foodness Gracious - May 22, 2012 - 12:20 AM

Wow, all of the pictures look amazing but that meatloaf and rib sent me overboard! I’d be all over that if I ate at The Yardbird :)
Thanks..

I have very similar lighting in my kitchen! It’s a chandelier from West Elm. We have similar bulbs too. They are called Edison bulbs and you can get them at home depot but they are like $9 a piece. Such a cool statement piece, we get complements all the time!
