This is where the other half of my blog takes place. We recently decided to give this room a mini makeover. We had a cherry wood desk in here with a black leather computer chair. It just wasn’t doing it for me. For as much time as I spend in this office in the evenings and on the weekends, I wanted to brighten it up. I’m thankful I had Jason’s support in this. I know it’s kind of a girly room, but he’s very supportive of my blog and he understood that the room definitely needed to be livened up. Plus, we get SO much natural light in here that it was natural to lean towards lighter furniture. Also, just a note: if I could change the ceiling fan (ew brass accents), I would. Maybe later. And the wall color was not our choice, it was the previous owners’ choice (it was their nursery) but it’s really grown on us so that’s why we never repainted it.
My favorite part of this mini makeover is the photo canvas gallery that showcases some of my favorite photos and dishes/desserts I’ve made for the blog.
I actually had bought the “cook” sign in November when Ali showed me the Etsy shop, OldNew Again. I initially bought it to put above my stove but then I saw Annie’s makeover and was inspired to do a smaller version in our office. I later bought the “love” sign to complete the gallery look. The owners of OldNew Again were so accommodating and were able to do a 1-week turnaround time for me instead of their standard 2-3 weeks.

This is the other side of our office. I wish that IKEA bookshelf were white, but we had gotten that a while ago so I didn’t want to replace it and waste money. Maybe once we finish furnishing our den area, I’ll bring this black shelf down and replace it with a white one :) P.S. do you spy Anderson Cooper? ;)
Ok – now you also might be wondering “why is the diploma on the left so much larger than the diploma on the right?” Let’s just say Michael’s ripped me off when I went to get my diploma framed. The lady at the store location I went to said they couldn’t go any smaller than what you see. Then, when I went to get Jason’s diploma framed at another Michael’s location, the lady told me it can be whatever size and I said, “whatever is cheapest but still looks good.” Ugh, so pissed. So lesson learned: don’t back down, fight back if it’s not what you want.

Here’s an up-close look at the photo canvas gallery. Yes, they’re canvassed, and yes, it was exceptionally great quality and super cheap (AND the backs are covered and they include hangers on the back for either vertical or horizontal hanging). I got all 6 prints for $122. Unreal, right? Totally real. Check out CGPro Prints for all the deets. I was EXTREMELY satisfied with my order. They say it takes about 3 business days to process and print then another 2-3 days, depending on where you live, to ship. Except, when it was the 3rd business day, I got a tracking info email that said my prints were “out for delivery.” Super nice surprise. Guess what I’ll be doing with all my wedding photos in May? Oh yeah, canvassing them ;)

I thought I’d show you the process of how I set up my photo gallery. I basically just found the sizes I wanted to print my prints on CGPro Prints and then cut out pieces of paper and taped them on the wall and assembled them in a nice collage. I left enough space for my “cook” sign and my “love” sign.

Here’s an up-close look at my new Pottery Barn desk. Seriously so in love with it. I scored it for $299, $100 off the original price! It was on sale during President’s Day weekend and it had free shipping! It’s still $299 now but I don’t believe the free shipping still applies (it’s like $35 shipping – pricey!)
The glass comes with the desk and the entire package, because of the large glass, was 109 pounds! Haha, it was so heavy. I felt bad for our UPS guy. The quality is great and it was super easy to put together. With our IKEA furniture building experience, I was worried this was somehow going to take all night.
I know you’re also probably thinking, “but Julie! There are no drawers!” yeah, there aren’t any. That was my initial hesitation with this desk but then I realized I didn’t really need the drawers and I can always just buy pretty baskets to put on the side of the desk or a little file cabinet. It keeps me more organized, too, to not have drawers. I’m not constantly shoving everything in the drawer just because I can. I now actually throw things away. Haha

Ok, this awesome find was at Home Goods. I initially just had our black computer chair but I really didn’t like how it was throwing off the entire theme of the room so I went to Home Goods (at the advise of my good friend Emily) and scored this awesome (and uber comfy & squishy) chair. I love that it goes so well with the “theme.”

I love the accent studs on the chair. It really brings the chair to life and I also adore the hexagonal pattern that the chair had. Pretty sweet buy, if I do say so myself! :)
Here’s a recap of where I got everything. If you see something else in the room that you’re like, “omg where’d you get that?!,” feel free to ask in the comments below.
- Cook and Love signs: OldNewAgain on Etsy
- Custom canvas prints: CGPro Prints
- Desk: Pottery Barn
- Chair: Home Goods
- Bookshelf: IKEA
- Pen mug: Anthropologie

Pretty!! I love the idea of canvassing photos!! It definitely adds some sort of a 3D look, overall :)
I love how clean and simple it all is. And having your photographs on the wall is so inspiring…and SO jealous of all that natural light! :) Oh, and you may want to consider painting your Ikea shelf. It’s a pain to paint that furniture, but we painted our dresser/changing table for Liam’s room and are pretty happy how it turned out! :) Check out Ikea Hacker for more ideas with Ikea furniture…pretty genius ideas. Looks great Julie! Ah, how I miss having an office (now a nursery). :-P
I love that chair Julie!! Your office is beautiful, makes me want to re-do ours :)
Your office is STUNNING!!!! Love the bright green!
Omg Julie I absolutely love your office, especially that photo collage!! I have a great little room in my apt that I would love to convert into an office like this. You did an awesome job!!!
Its beautiful, I love the color and the wall gallery! And that chair is amazing!
are those JMU diplomas?! YAY DUKES! Love your recipes and your new office! I’m currently updating my office space and this is giving me inspiration!
Sooo bright an cheery!!!! I love it
Looks so great! It’s so happy!
Yes, JMU! Go Dukes!! :) woohoo!
It looks so great Julie, you’ve done a great job with it! I love the photos on the wall too, it makes for a really striking display.
Wow! It’s so beautiful. What an awesome space to write in! So much natural light and I love the green. :)
My current “office” is the couch. When we moved into our house, we originally set up the upstairs loft space as being our office, but (this sounds supremely lazy) we rarely use it. It’s just so far away from the “heart” of the house, you know? If I want to go up there to work, I have to go and move in. Bring my water. Bring some snacks. Make sure nothing else is going on.
Okay, you may have inspired me to move our office now. :P
Your office looks so inspiring for blogging! I love the food pics on the wall……what a great idea!
SUPER cute! Oh how I wish I had a home to do that right now. As of this moment, I am sitting in the corner of my livingroom just WAITING for someone to tell me what they need ME to do that they really could do on their own. My office door will be sound proof and have a lock ;)
That collage is too stinkin’ cute! By the way, I’m lovin’ those JMU diplomas! I’m working on mine right now :) GO DUKES!
How cute! I love how everything is so simple and streamlined. I’m working on my office now, ripping wallpaper down in my free time. Hopefully it will be done pretty soon!
Thanks for showing and walking us through your office makeover. I love light and bright spaces. Especially natural light is like instant motivation and inspiration for me!
I LOVE it! It looks so good. My favorite part is absolutely the canvas art. You’ve got my brain going now. And of course the desk is purdy :) BTW you should totally just paint the ikea bookshelf. Get a can of spray paint even. Quick and easy.
OMG, Julie!! I’m in love with this space. You did an amazing job! I’m totally crushing on the chair and the canvassing. Now, I want to makeover my office!!
I love it! Your photo gallery is the cutest thing ever!
You’ve inspired me to maybe share our living room makeover. :)
Beautiful! How about you come and make over my office?? And there are a few other rooms you could do as well… ;-)
I love the look of the office! SUPER CUTE!
Love the pictures! This room is great!
Love it!! It’s so clean and cheery. I saw Annie’s collage as well and planned to do one for our dining room. Thanks so much for the canvassing company’s link! I had been grabbing Groupon and Living Social deals for our family pictures, but I’d love to have it done all at once. (And not spend a fortune.) Well done, my dear!!
LOVE IT!!!!!!
I’m usually a lurker, I had to peep out and also say, YAY! JMU Dukes!!
Love, love, love the photo canvases!
I love this so much!! Especially your photo wall, such a fabulous personal touch.
I can totally see why you kept the wall color. it is so right and cheerful. Love the look.
i love the clean look and having light, white furniture brings in more light to the room. I have a photo gallery in my little dining/work area its like my inspiration. I hear about your decision-my drawers sometimes scares me. hope to get many beautiful posts and recipes from this new office :)
Seriously LOVE it! So pretty, and I really like that green color actually. It flows well with the whole thing :) I love that your pen mug has a W on it already! I cant wait for you to be in the W family with me! :D Sooooo soon! That chair is over the top gorgeous! I love it so much!
I am glad that you decided to keep the green wall color! It really works and green is my favorite color! The canvas prints look so nice! Great job on those! I don’t think the different sized diplomas look bad either. As far as the ceiling fan goes you could take it down, take the fan blades off of the brass hardware and spray paint it with a different color of medal looking spray paint. Just a thought since it doesn’t blend as well.Over all I really like the space. Is your married last name going to start with a “W”? I love the pen cup but I am a little confused by the “W”.
So inspiring! Very honored to see our “cook” and “love” signs on your gorgeous wall!!!
Liz
pretty and cozy. love it!
Love it!!! You should paint the bookshelf white instead of getting a new one. You could also paint the insides different colors to go with the room. (: make it more customized.
How awesome is Home Goods? One of my fave places for food props. Love the new office :)
Love the chair and adore the desk! Good point about less drawers. The more space you have, the easier it is to fill it.
I love this makeover, especially the canvas prints. What a creative idea! I just got a desk at Ikea over the weekend, I love that I have a space I can go and work for a little bit. It is right next to a sliding door, so it will be great for natural light on the weekends. I still need a desk chair though!
I’m loving your office makeover…that chair is gorgeous! It’s really making me motivated to do something my own (sad) office space. :)
Yup, married last name will be “W” :)
i love it! that chair is fabulous
Wonderful little makeover Julie! It looks like a fabulous place to get all your blog work done :) I like the green color too!
I saw that post from Annie too and have been narrowing down my photos ever since so I can hang a few canvases in my kitchen. I seriously love the look!
Love your photo canvas gallery!
Love the photo gallery, Julie! Can you list the dimensions of your photos?
Sure! I did 2 of each of these dimensions: 10×10, 11×14, and 12×18.
I love this and I think the green looks fabulous with the purple. I can see why it’s growing on you!!
Julie! This is a GORGEOUS office. I love the green and I remember reading that purple is your favorite color – the purple and green look fabulous together! We are moving outside of the city next month and we’ll be getting an office! You’ve inspired me to check out CGPro Prints. I love the glass desk too – it’s the size I’m looking for! Seriously, thank you so much for posting this! So decor-inspirational :)
Beautiful office! We have similar taste because a wall in my craft room is that color and my chair! I love that green! Love the food prints!
I totally love everything about the mini makeover!! And the canvases just rock my socks off. Heyy it’s the garlic pasta you guested on my blog with! Hooray! I think I finally have to make it this weekend – I’ve only been lusting after it for six months!!
LOVE the green!
You guys did an amazing job!! I LOVE the table, and such a great deal too!
Hi, just love the bright color. May I suggest that you move your desk to the left (under the pictures)? Would be much better. Cheers Johane
Thanks for your thoughts but the reason why the desk is where it is is because there’s a walk in closet right next to the photo gallery. The closet doors wouldn’t be able to open with a desk there.
Love it!! I am in the process of claiming the spare room as my ‘office’. This post makes me want to speed things up a bit :D
Your room is gorgeous! And that fun photo collage…LOVE!!!! I will have to check out that canvas store!!!
I love your art wall! Are they all things you made?! So meaningful! :)
Hellooo! Brand new to your blog and just had to say my favorite thing about your office is the JMU diploma! My husband and I are alumni (go Duuukes!) also living in the DC area. Small world! Looking forward to perusing your recipes. :)
Hi Katie!! So glad you found my blog :) my fiancé and I are both JMU alumni too!! I love the JMU community and how many of us there are around here :) yay go Dukes!! I hope you find some recipes to enjoy :) xoxo
Can you tell me what paint color you used on the walls?
Hi Wendy! I know it’s Behr brand but I don’t know what the name of the color is because we didn’t paint it ourselves. The previous owner of our house painted it :)
It turned out beautifully! Really love the lightness of that desk, and the chair is beautiful. And such a great gallery wall with your lovely photos! :) I’d say just spraypaint the crap out of the Expedit shelves if you don’t like the black. ;)
It’s so amazingly cute!! You’re so creative, and I especially love the photo gallery. I recently found your blog and have spent the past week reading through all your archives. I love everything and can’t wait to be caught up!
