BUT I WILL SAY: after you read this post and after you clean your glass oven door with my hack…you maaaaay look just as happy as me!

So, the back story on what may seem like an extremely random post.

When we lived in our old house, since we weren’t the first owners, the glass oven door was pretty much never going to get as clean as it was new.

Oven doors are annoying. If you don’t keep up with the regular cleaning of the glass, you’re just screwed.

When we moved to our new house, I knew I wanted to keep the glass oven door as clean as possible so I knew I would want to do a quick cleaning of it every other month.

I should note: GLASS OVEN DOOR. Not the entire oven, lol…I clean the inside of my oven once every 6 months or so.

Anyway, I have always loved Bar Keepers Friend.

I don’t care if you judge me for using chemicals or whatever — it works and if it makes my life easy then I will continue to use it.

So I knew that I would use Bar Keepers Friend on the oven door and a sponge.

I chose a silicone rubber one because I wanted a gentle one since I don’t want to scratch up the glass.

But then I was like, “how am I going to actually get the grime off?” because just scrubbing with Bar Keepers Friend doesn’t totally get it all up.

Then I thought about how a lot of contractors carry razors in their toolset. And I thought about how I have used a razor to scrape off stickers or random stuff before.

So, I went on Amazon and found a mini razor scraper.

EXACTLY what I was looking for.

All three of these combined: Bar Keepers Friend, sponge, and razor gave me AN OVEN DOOR THAT WAS A MIRROR WHEN I WAS FINISHED.

VERY long story, short…I decided to share this hack on Instagram stories and everyone freaked out.

They tried it, their friends tried it, I still get messages about it…everyone LOVES it.

They say their oven doors are sparkling.

I have a Instagram story highlight of this but it’s so much easier to just have an actual post so here you go!

Step 1: pour some Bar Keeper’s friend onto your glass oven door.

Step 2: using a soft sponge, in a circular motion, spread the Bar Keepers Friend into a thin even layer to cover the entire oven door glass.

Let it sit for 10-15 minutes.

Step 3: grab the razor and at an angle (this step is actually the most important), NOT straight-edge, ANGLE. You aren’t trying to scratch up your glass. You’re just trying to remove the extra gunk.

So, at an angle, slide your razor horizontally or vertically across the glass. When you get to the edge, start over at the other end, repeat until you have scraped your entire glass clean.

Step 4: take a wet washcloth and wipe off excess solution and to just wipe the oven door some more.

Step 5: step back and smile at your mirror-finish glass oven door!

  1. I just finished cleaning my oven door. It took awhile for the mini scraper to arrive, but worth the wait. It was a breeze! Thanks for sharing your secret

  2. I used the Barkeepers friend and did as you did and it left a haze on the inside oven door. Is there something that will take the haze off?

  3. Going to do this! Thanks! Wondering if you have any ideas on cleaning the inside of the glass door? Idk how but something spilled inside and idk how to clean it?! Thanks!

    1. I heard that you have to peel back the seal and whatnot to do that…I’m certainly not about to encourage that, though, because I have never done it myself and I feel like you could really screw up your oven if you don’t do it right! May be more trouble than it’s worth.

  4. I will be trying this ASAP! I cleaned my less than 3 month old double ovens last week and was disappointed that the glass would not come clean. Using a razor blade was what I was missing! ?
