Beyond the Table

A slightly different Beyond the Table post this week. I feel like I’m celebrating Mother’s Day two months early but I really wanted to share this with you guys. My friend and fellow blogger, Katarina Alaupovic is creating an online publication celebrating women camaraderie and community. Read my #ISawRed moment below and see how my mom impacted my entire existence.

For as long as I remember, I have always loved being in the kitchen with my mom. She’s definitely the one that sparked my interest in cooking. Instead of putting on cartoons for me to watch, she would turn the channel to Yan Can Cook or Julia Childs on PBS.

My mom was never afraid of having me in the kitchen and showing me her cooking tricks. It would be our time together whenever I got the chance to be in the kitchen with her. I really truly enjoyed being next to her and learning from her. She would tell me stories about how when she was young, she would do the same thing with her mother and how her cooking tricks were picked up from being in the kitchen with her mother too.

I’m so thankful that my mom never held me back with any of my dreams. She’s always been there to empower me. She’s been my inspiration from day one with starting this blog, in other words, when #ISawRed. I’ve always watched her make and share recipes with her friends and it’s ironic now that I’m now here sharing recipes and inspiring others to get in the kitchen.

Having a female role model in my life has greatly impacted the woman I am today. It’s hard to find that type of role model these days in life when women seem to be all about competition and are quick to judge one another. Have you ever thought, “We need a supportive community – a camaraderie?” I know I’ve thought that many times when I see other women putting other women down due to jealousy or something petty. Well, your search for that uplifting community of women is over. My friend and fellow blogger, Katarina Alaupovic is creating RUBY Magazine.

RUBY will be an online lifestyle publication that promotes female camaraderie, supports sisterhood, and inspires women to make a difference.

Through skillful reporting and creative storytelling, with careful attention to word choice, RUBY will create an inclusive and supportive environment with one goal in mind: to lay the foundation for future generations of confident, motivated and inspirational women who make it a point to champion their fellow female.

When did you have an important moment where you remember another female having a profound and positive impact on your life? You know, the moment, advice or experience was so great that you “saw red” – gained a fresh POV, got clarity on your direction, discovered a passion, etc. Share your #ISawRed moment with me below and on Twitter using the hashtag! I’d love to hear your story! Also, be sure to check out the RUBY Magazine Kickstarter page to find out more information and donate to the cause!

What a fantastic idea. My favorite online community for women is in the comments section of the Cup of Jo blog. 99% of the comments are uplifting, supportive, intelligent, and it makes me feel good just to read them. Can’t wait for Ruby and another online space where women can feel supported.
