Beyond the Table

    1. Rachel came to visit me last weekend. We both enjoy the same movies series (Hunger Games and Divergent) so whenever the movies come out, we switch off visiting each other. We saw Insurgent! I remember last year when I had just seen Divergent and was so excited I couldn’t wait til Insurgent came out. I have to say, I thought the first movie was way better. There wasn’t much Theo in this second one ;) I did like all the action in it though but I felt that they left out some key parts and the first one didn’t leave out as much.
    2. Not a fan of coconut milk creamer. I think I was hoping that I’d get more of a coconut flavor from it but it was just flavorless and thicker than half and half. I guess I’ll stick to my regular half and half. I’m intrigued with trying out almond milk in my coffee though. Have you tried it? Does it taste good?
    3. Omg, I don’t know where I’ve been all my life with Greek yogurt. I thought Chobani was the end all be all for Greek yogurt but I recently gave Fage a shot and it makes me feel like I’ve been eating crappy Greek yogurt the past few years. Chobani is more tart and tangier than Fage and just has a weird overall flavor compared to Fage. Fage is so smooth and perfect. I bet if I had tried Fage as my first Greek yogurt, I wouldn’t have had to go through the ‘adjustment’ period. I want to buy all the Fage’s now. Too bad they’re so expensive. Looks like couponing is in my future!

    1. How to increase your happiness by incorporating the littlest things!
    2. I keep reading about the Germanwings flight. So so sad and scary :(
    3. I received a cookbook in the mail early this week and I can’t put it down. It’s called The Food of Taiwan by Cathy Erway. It’s something I will constantly turn to to bring me back to my country. The food, the culture, and the history of Taiwan is so rich and beautiful. It’s deeply rooted in the food and you can find out so much about one’s culture through food.
    4. I’ve been trying to find curtains for our guest bedroom. Finally stumbled upon some at World Market that I loved but wasn’t sure if it was the right length. Came home to measure and then went back and it was sold out :( now it’s discontinued!! Bummer.

Totally agree about Insurgent! Still liked it, but I left saying Divergent was waaaaaay better :) Happy Friday to you!

    2. Trying to reduce dairy, I tried almond milk in my coffee last week. I spit it out. Literally. I love almond milk but not in coffee.
    3. Have you tried Trader Joe’s Greek yogurt? Noosa is so yummy too.

    • Julie says:

Haha, thanks for saving me from that! No, I haven’t tried TJ’s greek yogurt – looks like I’m making my way there soon to try :) I need to try Noosa too! I see it all the time.

      • Betty says:

Have you tried the Greek Gods yogurt? My co-worker and I are Greek yogurt snob. We’ve tried a lot of brand and are a huge fan of Greek Gods yogurt. We do shop around and would tell each other where the deals are. Best is to get two 24-oz. for $5. I recommend the Honey flavor one. We are not a fan of the Honey Vanilla flavor.

        • Julie says:

No, I haven’t! I’ll have to look for it.

      • Stephanie says:

I totally agree with Betty! LOVE Greek Gods Honey flavor! I’ve tried all the flavors they sell and Honey is the absolute best! It has a thicker consistency than most Greek yogurts I’ve tried (similar to Yoplait’s custard style, but thicker).

        • Julie says:

Thanks! I’ll have to try it now!

  • Maria says:

SO fun to read,.. thank you for sharing :)

i am not a fan of almond milk in my coffee…it’s nasty and i’m not sure why. I agree…Fage is far better than any other Greek yogurt I’ve tried.

  • Janell says:

I put almond milk in my coffee, but first I shake it. :) I place some in a small mason jar and shake until it doubles in volume. It gets thicker and frothy that way; so you can have an almond milk latte. Oh, I also usually add either vanilla or almond extract to it also.

    • Julie says:

Interesting! I might have to try this your way!

  • AJ says:

Yeahp– almond milk is fine cold. But when it’s heated up it is terribly burnt-tasting. I usually get almond milk for iced cappuccinos and it tastes great, but once ordered it for hot cappuccino and I was very very very sad. Having said this, I’ve found that cooking/baking with almond milk is okay, just not when it’s heated up and is the primary ingredient (or added to hot beverages).

  • shelly (cookies and cups) says:

omg I SO agree about Fage… I have eating that forever.. and when Chobani blew up I decided to try it and was like “blech”. Fage for life :)
