Cheers to Three Years

Third Year Wedding Anniversary, photo credit: Anna Grace Photography

It’s Jason and I’s third wedding anniversary today! I took a page out of Laura’s blog and did a little marriage superlative Q&A with Jason and I. I wish I had done this every year but better late than never! I hope to keep it a tradition through the years :)

They say that the traditional anniversary gift you give for the third year of marriage is leather. How fitting that Jason and I are going to Iceland next month and we don’t have hiking boots! We bought each other a pair of hiking boots for our wedding anniversary this year! We also did an anniversary shoot with my photog friend, Anna Grace because this was a big year for us with getting a puppy. We had to document this new furry baby in our lives! She graciously let us preview a handful and to use in this anniversary post. They turned out amazing!! It makes me so excited to see the rest!

Most Memorable Trip

Julie: LA

Jason: Los Angeles

Greatest Challenge

Julie: adjusting our work schedules and lifestyle for Winston. Giving each other more grace and letting the little things go because whatever we can get done or do in a day, is now considered “enough.”

Jason: having to juggle having a broken puppy

Biggest Surprise

Julie: Jason loves surprising me at Christmas with gifts I’m not expecting and this past year, he got me the most awesome sweatshirt from Madewell. It was a Corgi sweatshirt and I absolutely LOVE it!

Jason: how attached Julie has gotten to the puppy

Best Meal

Julie: Blue Hill at Stone Barns

Jason: Blue Hill at Stone Barns

Favorite Date Night

Julie: the first date night we had after we brought Winston home. I think it was like three weeks or something before we felt comfortable enough to leave Winston alone in his crate to leave him to go out together to run errands. It was exhilarating. I remember Snapchatting the occasion and I said something how now I know what it’s like when new parents leave their baby for the first time to have ‘US’ time. It’s like, “FREEEEEDOM!”

Jason: making something sous vide for Julie, like scallops or steak

Lesson Learned

Julie: I’m not a very patient person so this past year has taught me to be way more patient than I ever have been my whole life. Patience with everything: Winston’s recovery, Winston’s training, Jason and I’s new routine, waiting around for the right home, building a home…so much waiting/patience, lol

I also think that doing the paleo challenge was a great lesson learned in eating habits and something that serves as a reminder every day for when we’re cooking at home or buying groceries.

Jason: happy wife = happy life

Most Spontaneous Recollection

Julie: This one was hard. I’m not spontaneous at all because I’m super type A and everything needs to be planned out, but I think the most spontaneous this year was me dying my hair pink! It was something I had been thinking about doing but when I sat in my hair stylist’s chair, I decided to just go for it!

Jason: going to Sugar Shack Donuts in Alexandria one night on a whim

Best Impulse Purchase

Julie: the NEST cam to spy on our little guy :)

Jason: our espresso machine

Song That Best Describes Our 3rd Year

Julie: Stand By You by Rachel Platten – “Even if we can’t find Heaven, I’ll walk through Hell with you, love; you’re not alone, I’m gonna stand by you.” I think that line in that song describes this year tremendously. Between new jobs, getting a dog, and just LIFE in general; this is the perfect song to describe us this year.

Jason: 99 Problems (for the record, he said he’s joking, lol)

Most Looking Forward To…

Julie: building our new house!

Jason: having our forever home built and getting settled in Vienna with Julie and Winston!

I enjoyed reading this post. I’m getting married next year and I’m looking forward to the adventure ahead. Will and I love your snap chat and the trials and hilarious antics that you guys go through with Winston. He is one lucky puppy to have such loving parents.
