Daily Supplements I’m Taking

SHARE THIS POST:

First, let me start off this post with the standard disclaimers.

  1. I am not a medical professional of any kind so please do not think that these are supplements that you should be taking. Do your research. Talk to your doctor before starting on any sort of supplement plan.
  2. These supplements I’m taking are specifically for MY needs and are in no way a reflection of what YOU need in your life or body.
  3. Do your research; find out what works for you.
  4. I do not claim to be an expert nor am I claiming these are “the” supplements to take.
  5. This isn’t sponsored and these are just brands I love through my research.

Okay, now that not-so-fun stuff is out of the way, let’s talk about daily supplements I take!

I’ve been getting a lot of questions on this subject because over on Instagram, I’ve shown my weekly “fill up” of my pill box.

Haha, I felt SO OLD buying a pill box on Amazon but with all the supplements I’m taking these days, it’s the only way to keep track.

It’s also far easier to do it once a week and not have to open so many individual bottles each day.

First and foremost, a woman’s multivitamin, I feel is definitely needed.

It has the basic nutrients your body needs for the day in case you can’t get that in with what you’re eating.

This is my third bottle of Garden of Life’s Women’s Once Daily. I just really like this company because of how they source their ingredients and they’re all organic.

Pretty sure we all need more vitamin D in our lives.

Vitamin D deficiency is real and for an office worker like me, I rarely see enough sunshine.

I mean, let’s be real…I think many of us these days don’t see enough sunshine because of how work has transitioned indoors and we aren’t like how work used to be anymore.

Anyway, so I take 1000 I.U. of vitamin D3 daily because my women’s daily multivitamin above has 1000 I.U. D3 so I get 2000 a day!

I started reading this amazing book called The Chemistry of Calm: A Powerful, Drug-Free Plan to Quiet Your Fears and Overcome Your Anxiety and this was one of the supplements that the author/doctor recommended.

B vitamins can help prevent negative effects of stress and also support brain chemicals and help aide in calming anxiety because it aids in the production of GABA and serotonin.

And that’s what SSRI drugs do; they help you produce more serotonin but I believe (after reading this book), there are definitely natural remedies to aide in this and supplements give your body that ability.

It’s kind of like giving your body what it naturally needs.

I don’t fault those who truly need SSRI’s/anti-depressants but I do think the ease that doctors write these prescriptions is alarming.

I do feel that we should find the root of the issue first before just saying someone needs an SSRI/anti-depressant.

It’s probably because they’re lacking something and supplements can help with that.

This is my own personal stance with this because of my horrendous experience with an SSRI and how I decided to go finding a more natural route and stumbled upon The Chemistry of Calm thanks to my nutrition coach.

Anyway, ever since I started taking this B-complex, I noticed I have crazy amount more energy. I’m not crashing in the middle of the afternoon. I’m energized.

I notice a huge difference if I forget to take it one day. I end up falling asleep on the couch in the early evening haha

I’m shockingly even able to stay up later at night which is huge because I’m usually in bed by 9:30!

A note about B-complex. It’s very important you read the label and see what is in the dose.

This is suggested to get the most out of your B-complex and where you’ll see the most difference.

This is why I chose the brand I chose above. It fits every criteria. It’s incredibly shocking to me how many supplement companies out there lack in this department. You THINK just buying a B-complex supplement, you would be fulfilling your needs. No, not if you don’t read the labels. Ideally, you want this:

  • 25-100mg of B6 (in the form of pyridoxal 5-phosphate, or pyridoxine)
  • 400-800mg daily folic acid
  • 50-200mcg daily of B12

I got turned onto HUM Nutrition because I randomly got this sample above in one of my skincare orders from Dermstore.

They have a lot of supplements and they’re all high quality and premium. They’re non-GMO, gluten-free, potent, and sustainably sourced.

I love companies like that.

If you’re adding supplements in your diet, you should give your body the highest quality, otherwise you might as well not give it any supplements at all.

I have been taking the Red Carpet for about a month and I naturally have really shiny hair so I’m not quite sure if this is working BUT I will say, I think my skin is slightly brighter. Maybe it’s my skincare too but I also don’t think this is harming anything.

Will I buy this again once I run out? Maybe. I’m not 100% sold on it.

I have a lot of anxiety and I read in The Chemistry of Calm that rhodiola rosea root is like a natural xanax.

Moreso than L-Theanine.

Rhodiola rosea is an herbal adaptogen that helps with anxiety, depression, and stress.

It supposedly works by improving serotonin and dopamine levels and counteracting the effects of cortisol.

I don’t take this daily but I do take it when I feel anxious or feel like I’m about to have a stressful episode.

It is recommended you look for an extract standardized to at least 3% rosavins and about 1% salidrosides.

It just so happens that the HUM Big Chill is exactly that. And the perfect dose (recommended is 100-250mg twice daily but I take it once a day, in the morning with breakfast) and Big Chill is exactly 500mg in one capsule.

I absolutely LOVE it.

Just a heads up: if you drink coffee, sometimes rhodiola rosea interacts with caffeine and it makes you sweat more. I started to notice that after a couple doses, haha…I was like WHY AM I SO HOT AND SWEATY RIGHT NOW?!

Fish oil. I know, you’re probably not going to want to take this but trust me. It’s so good for you.

AND there is ZERO fishy aftertaste or burps. Zero!

I think they have some sort of citrus/orange flavor in the capsules because when I do burp, it is just citrusy.

Fish oil is really good for your brain, heart, and skin.

I mean, even Winston gets fish oil in his diet every day!

Do you take all of these supplements at once or do you take at different times during the day, such as with meals. This has always been my concern as to when and why to take at certain times.

I take them all at once! Right after breakfast so it gets digested with my food :) the vitamin B-complex is especially important to take in the morning only because it energizes you so if you take it too late in the day, you may have trouble sleeping at night.

Fun fact I learned about B complex as well – I guess birth control depletes your B vitamins. My Natropathic Doctor said a lot of birth control companies are actually looking at incorporating a B Complex into the pill to help bring the levels back up.

Julie, I just want to say thank your recommendations and posting about the the vitamins above. I started taking the Bcomplex last week and I love it!

I also ordered the HUM Big Chill and it is amazing. I have been very stressed this last week putting in my notice for my job to go to a different company. This has helped me go through a long week.

Your post could not have came at a better time! Thanks again for posting this and sharing your experience with the products above.
