I call this final day as a ‘choose your own adventure’ day because you have a few options of what to do on your last day.

You’re likely driving back to Reykjavik on this last day and while we chose to actually spend more time in Reykjavik, you could easily choose to do Blue Lagoon if you didn’t do it on your way in or head that way anyway (even if you’ve already done Blue Lagoon) and check out Reykjanes Peninsula. It’s right near the airport too so you can spend your day out there and get hotel accommodations near the airport if you aren’t flying out until the next morning (like we were).

You could also stop into a town that you wanted to stop into on your way South but didn’t get the chance or go to one of the many museums in Reykjavik or do a food tour!

While we didn’t go to the peninsula because I was really sick and lacking energy, we did get a chance to spend our last day (which was sunny and beautiful) in downtown Reykjavik again and went shopping. We basically did last minute souvenir buying for friends and family and we stopped in our favorite bakery and our favorite coffee shop again. It was a really nice way to wind down and relax after an eventful week. Being sick with a nasty sore throat didn’t help but I tried to enjoy our last day as much as possible.

While we were strolling the streets of Reykjavik, we ran into two of the girls I sat next to on the plane coming to Iceland! They’re sisters and both of them are from Colorado. One of the sisters is doing an internship in Iceland until August and the other sister tagged along to visit and help her get acclimated. It was such a small world. Speaking of small world…we met THREE different couples from the DC area, one of which lives down the street from us, haha – of all places to converge!

Anyway, there’s so much to do and so much to see. We can’t wait to come back to Iceland and go north to see even more of Iceland’s beauty! I hope these posts have helped to give you a glimpse of what Iceland has to offer. I do have one more post tomorrow on how to stay connected in Iceland, if that is something you’re interested in! :)

  1. Hi! Your itinerary sounds amazing! Could you please tell me who your guide was and any contact information you may have?

    1. Hi Nicole, we didn’t have a guide – I planned this trip myself! Or are you talking about another post where I mentioned a guide for one of the excursions?

  2. Thank you for your post! I am traveling to Iceland in February for 6 days and I believe most of your itinerary is compatible with my winter drip and duration. I was wondering if I could get any advice on a possible modification. After traveling the Golden Circle from Reykavik, do you suggest staying at another town more south instead of circling back to Reykavik? I also plan on visiting southern Iceland next.

  3. I’ve been dreaming of going to Iceland for years, and now I want to go even more. It sounds like it was a great trip, thanks for sharing these tips !
