Start your morning off bright and sunny with a batch of homemade Orange Scones! Soft, crumbly scones are flavored with real orange juice, as is the sweet glaze on top.
Preheat the oven to 400 °F (204 °C). Spray a baking sheet and set aside.
In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, sugar, baking powder and salt. Using a pastry cutter, cut in the cubed butter until the mixture is crumbly and the butter is pea sized. Add in the orange zest and mix. Add in the milk, orange juice and egg and bring the mixture together.
Turn out onto a floured surface and roll into a ball. Flatten into a large circle about 1” thick. Cut into 8 triangles.
Place onto prepared baking sheet and into the oven to bake. Bake for 18-20 minutes or until the tops begin to brown. Remove from the oven and let cool.
In the meantime, make the glaze by combining powdered sugar and 3 Tbs of orange juice. You will have to stir for quite a while before you start to notice the powdered sugar start to be absorbed into the orange juice. Once your glaze comes together, if it is too thick you can add the remaining tablespoon of orange juice. It is easiest to make the glaze using a whisk.
Spoon glaze onto each of the cooled scones and let set for a few minutes. Serve and enjoy!
