In a skillet, cook the bacon to your desired doneness. Then remove it from the skillet
Sear the beef in the bacon fat, just until browned on the exterior.
Add the beef, onion, garlic, carrots, celery, potatoes, Worcestershire sauce, sugar, thyme, and bay leaf to the slow cooker.
Whisk the beef broth and tomato paste together and pour it into slower cooker, along with the beer and chocolate.
Turn the slow cooker to low and cook for 8 hours. Once it's done, whisk flour in and stir until thickened.
Season with salt and pepper to taste and dig in!
