Thinly sliced shaved beef is tossed together in a quick stir fry coated in a thick and savory sauce along with vibrant vegetables like red bell peppers and broccoli.
Whisk together all the ingredients for the sauce and set aside.
½ cup low sodium soy sauce, 3 tablespoons dark brown sugar, 4 cloves garlic, 1 teaspoons grated ginger, 1 tablespoon cornstarch
In a large wok or skillet over medium-high heat, add 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil. Once the oil is hot and glistening, add shaved steak to the pan. You may need to do this in batches so it doesn’t overcrowd the pan and steam the steak instead of browning it. Since shaved steak is very thin, you only really need to brown one side then remove from the pan and set aside. Repeat until all steak has been browned, but not cooked all the way through.
1 pound shaved steak/beef
Reduce heat to medium then 1 teaspoon of oil and add broccoli and red bell pepper. Cook until tender. You may need to add 2 tablespoons of water to the skillet, cover, and allow to steam for 3 minutes to quicken the process.
1 ½ cups broccoli florets, 1 red bell pepper
Once vegetables are tender, add back in the browned steak. Turn heat to medium-high and make a well in the center of the mixture. Add the sauce, stir, and allow to thicken, about 30 seconds. Continue stirring and tossing ingredients in sauce until evenly coated. Remove from heat.
Serve with white rice. Sprinkle white sesame seeds and sliced green onions on top for garnish.
