This Valentine’s Day, celebrate with your sweetie in the best way by making these adorable Heart-Shaped Rice Krispy Treats! They’re like cake pops, only way cuter and easier to make. If you love store-bought Rice Krispies Treats, you’re going to love this homemade recipe SO much more!
I’m a real sucker for Valentine’s Day. I feel like this pink and red shaded holiday gets a lot of flack, but I adore how over the top and fun it is! Instead of being a hater, celebrate Valentine’s Day and let the inner child in you indulge in all the sweets you can. Besides, even if you have no significant other right now, you can love yourself!
If you don’t want to be your own Valentine, there’s always the more fun alternative – Galentine’s Day! Treat all of your favorite ladies to these adorable heart-shaped Rice Krispie Treats. They’re easy as can be to make and can be decorated in any way you like. Want to be a real rebel and dye your white chocolate black? Go ahead and share your black rebel hearts with all your friends.
No matter which way you celebrate, I think we all deserve to treat ourselves on February 14th.
With that being said, you don’t need to go throw all of your money at some bakery for sweet themed treats! Use this recipe instead not just to pinch a penny, but to make some treats with love.
Ingredients for heart-shaped rice krispy treats:
For the treats themselves, you’ll need:
- Rice Krispies cereal – The name brand is my go to, but I’m sure off-brand will also get the job done.
- Butter – Unsalted! You don’t want these treats to be salty.
- Mini marshmallows – Any brand will get the job done.
- Vanilla extract – Try to use pure vanilla extract, not imitation.
Here’s what you’ll need for the topping:
- Sprinkles – I mean, duh. You can’t make these treats without some fun heart shaped, multi colored sprinkles!
- White chocolate – It should be white chocolate, not almond bark.
- Pink candy melts – If your grocery store doesn’t have these, you can just add a few drops of red food dye to melted white chocolate to achieve that pink color.
- Coconut oil – This helps with the consistency.
- Pink or red food coloring – I like to use gel food coloring. It requires less drops and has a more vibrant color.
Tips for making heart-shaped rice krispy treats:
Form them while they’re warm. Once they start to harden, it’s going to be really hard to form them into the shape that you want. You don’t want them to be scalding hot while you work with them with your hands but you want them warm enough to touch that it won’t burn you.
Work in batches. If you’re going to be working with the pink candy melts, work with that one and then melt the other color so you aren’t constantly going to the microwave to reheat the candy melts to get them melted again (they do harden the longer you let it sit out)
Use a spoon or offset spatula. One of my favorite decorating tools is the offset spatula. It makes spreading frosting and chocolate so much easier. Of course a spoon works, just not as precise, but use what you’ve got!
Add sprinkles or toppings before chocolate hardens. I think this goes without saying but while the chocolate is still unset, you’ll want to add your toppings on so they set with the chocolate.
Wax paper is your friend. Wax paper will help the rice krispy treats release the easiest once they’re done cooling.
How long will heart-shaped Rice Krispies treats stay fresh?
In an airtight container at room temperature, these treats will stay fresh for about 3-4 days.
Consider wrapping them in pink or red saran wrap if you’re gifting them!
Can heart-shaped Rice Krispies treats be frozen?
Because of the chocolate topping, I don’t recommend freezing these treats once they’re made all pretty. However, you can freeze the hearts by themselves for up to 6 weeks. Do NOT freeze them once they’re coated with chocolate and sprinkles!
Serving Suggestions
Surprise your sweetie and serve these adorable rice krispy treats after your cast iron filet mignon dinner at home or date night out. I guarantee they’ll be so in love with the thought and how cute they are!

Heart-Shaped Rice Krispy Treats
Ingredients
- 6 cups (162 g) rice krispy cereal
- 6 tablespoons (84 g) unsalted butter
- 6 cups (300 g) mini marshmallows, (13.5 ounce bag)
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
For the topping:
- Sprinkles for Garnish
- 1 ¼ cup (165 g) white chocolate
- 1 cup (226 g) pink candy melts
- ½ cup (90 g) dark chocolate chips
- 1 teaspoon of coconut oil
- Pink or red food coloring
Instructions
- In a large saucepan, melt the butter. Add the marshmallows and stir continuously until completely melted and smooth. Add the vanilla and mix until combined. Remove from heat.
- Add in the Rice Krispies and stir until they are all covered in the marshmallow mixture.
- Place parchment paper in a rectangular mold, and add in the rice krispie mixture. With a spatula, spread evenly throughout the mold until it’s about 1 inch thick.
- Grease your heart molds and cut out the first round of hearts. With the rest of the mixture, reshape a square or rectangle, and repeat until you have cut out all the hearts. Place on a large sheet of wax paper.
- Let the hearts harden for about 20 minutes.
- Prepare the chocolate by adding the white chocolate into a small heat safe bowl, the dark chocolate to another and the candy melts to another bowl. Add 1 teaspoon of coconut oil to the white and dark chocolate. Melt one bowl at a time in the microwave for 20 second intervals until fully melted.
- Take a heart and dip the side or the top into the melted chocolate. If you like you can use a spoon to spread chocolate on the top of the hearts. Another option is to use a ziploc bag as a piping bag with a tiny hole cut in one edge to create thin lines. Place the hearts on wax paper and add the sprinkles. Let the hearts set completely before serving.
- Enjoy!
Utterly darling. And scrumptious looking too.
These are adorable!
rice krispies treats are one of my favs! i love the cute heart shapes & sprinkles! and i’m totally just a card girl too… anything else is just a bonus :)
I can’t believe I still haven’t introduced my kids to rice krispy treats. I keep meaning to but forget. Man I want one now lol.
These are so cute! I know my son would love them {me, too!}
So, so cute. I haven’t made rice krispy treats in so long. Perfect time to do so!
I can’t remember the last time I had a rice krispy treat! And especially not one that adorable.
My hubby would love me if I made these, he’s a rice crispy treat FIEND! It’s like the one thing he never grew out of. And what’s funny about it, is that I (who like everything else under the sun) am not really a rice crispy treat fan. There’s just so many other desserts out there I’d rather eat first. So point being, I never make these but he would be totally surprised and extra excited if I did this year ;)
Love love love these. I don’t think I’d want to just save them for valentines though!
i can vouch that these were delicious! awesome pics, too. =)
