If you’re anything like me, you think that fries should be in their own food group. I honestly cannot resist them. Golden, crispy, deep fried, and the perfect vessel for dipping into my favorite sauces. They honestly never fail to lighten my mood. When I’m feeling a bit under the weather with a migraine, I always ask for fries and a diet coke. Junk food cures!

Aside from the idea that fries are junk food (I personally think that no food is truly ‘junk’ – food is fuel and everything in moderation), these Cajun fries are a way to make classic fries a little more zesty and flavor-packed. Imagine sinking your teeth into a perfectly fried crispy fry – you know that feeling – that initial crunch and then the soft and warm fluffy potato center, then finished off with a zesty, bold kick from the Cajun seasoning. It is so satisfying in every single way and the best part is that this is one of the easiest recipes to make!

Why You’ll Love This

  • Packed with flavor. The Cajun seasoning really packs a punch on these fries. It’s both spicy and smoky which lends for the most perfect flavor punch on these crispy fries.
  • Quick side dish. I made this to be a really quick side dish to throw together by buying frozen fries and air frying them!
  • Twist on a classic. It’s always fun to do things a little differently and these Cajun fries are exactly that. It’s not too bold and out of the box but it definitely switches things up a bit!

Add fries to basket of air fryer. In a single, even layer, add frozen fries to the basket of your air fryer.

Fry the fries. Fry for 8 minutes at 400 degrees and shake halfway through.

Season the fries. Immediately after the fries come out, season generously with Cajun seasoning.

Recipe Tips, Substitutions, and Variations

  • Extra crispy tip. I love my fries extra crispy so I tend to leave mine in the air fryer for a bit longer. You can do the same, just watch it to make sure it doesn’t burn.
  • Use your oven. You can achieve the same results in your oven! Put the fries on a rimmed baking sheet in a single, even layer, then bake on the top rack at 400 degrees to the crispiness you desire.
  • Add the seasoning when the fries are hot. Right when the fries come out is when you want to generously sprinkle seasoning on your fries. It’ll adhere to the fries instead of falling off them.
  • Combine seasonings for different flavor variations. Feel free to experiment with different flavor combinations! Add a bit of hot honey drizzled on top for a spicy and sweet heat. Sprinkle some smoked paprika on top for a bit more smoky flavor. Use a BBQ rub mixed with a bit of Cajun seasoning for a Southern twist.
  • Use fresh potatoes. I’m definitely not stopping you from peeling and cutting up fresh potatoes to make your own homemade fries! You can cut them into whatever shape – classic hand-cut, steak, shoestring, curly. If you go use fresh potatoes, just be aware it will take longer to cook than frozen fries.
  • Use different dipping sauces. The second best part of eating fries is the dipping sauces! Experiment with using Copycat Chick-Fil-A Sauce or Homemade Tartar Sauce.
  • Look for different shapes. French fries come in a variety of shapes these days. These Cajun fries are the classic hand-cut shape but you can try waffle fries, curly, crinkle, shoestring, or even steak fries.

Storage and Reheating Instructions

Unfortunately these Cajun fries are best eaten day of and preferably right after they’re done cooking. They don’t keep very well! However, if you do have leftovers, keep them in an airtight container and use an air fryer or toaster oven to quickly reheat them to keep their crispy exterior. I do not recommend the microwave.
