There’s something about meatballs that make dinner so much better. I’m not sure if it’s the shape or the fact that these little balls are meat just seem to be more enticing to eat because it seems as if you’re getting more. Whatever the case may be, Greek chicken meatballs are delightful and full of flavor.

If you’re craving the flavors of the Mediterranean and want to create your own bowls with various toppings and use these Greek chicken meatballs as your protein, I could not be more supportive of that decision!

Why You’ll Love This

  • On the lighter side. As we transition between the seasons of hearty comfort foods and lighter summer fare, Greek Chicken Meatballs are the best recipe to make! They’re filling and protein-packed while still being rich with fresh flavors and they won’t weigh you down.
  • Quick and easy. Those are two of my favorite adjectives when it comes to any recipe! These chicken meatballs take just about 10 minutes to prep and another 20 to bake. It’s a 30 minute recipe you’ll love whipping up with ease.
  • Made flavorful with natural ingredients. Lemon juice and zest, garlic, herbs, and a medley of simple seasonings are what gives these Mediterranean-inspired meatballs their unique and summery flavor.

How To Make Greek Chicken Meatballs

Here is a general overview of how to make Greek Chicken Meatballs. Be sure to scroll to the bottom of this post for the full recipe.

Prepare. Preheat your oven to 400°F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

Mix the ingredients. Measure all of the ingredients and toss them into a mixing bowl. Use your hands to mix it all together until fully combined.

Bake. Use a cookie scoop to form the meatballs and place them on the prepared baking sheet. Bake for 10-15 minutes, depending on how big you ultimately form your meatballs.

Substitutions and Variations

The base of these chicken meatballs can’t change too much, but there are a few ways you can still make them your own:

  • Change the herbs – Can’t find any fresh dill? Dried will do just fine! Likewise, you can also swap the dried oregano and basil for fresh if you’d prefer.
  • Omit the salt – If you’re trying to stick to a low-sodium diet, you can easily omit the salt that’s called for and still have very flavorful meatballs.
  • Add more seasonings – I think the natural flavors of these meatballs already lend a ton of flavor, but there’s still more fun that could be had! For example, you can create an even more lemony flavor by sprinkling in a few pinches of lemon pepper in place of plain black pepper.

Tips for Success

Here are just a few nifty tips and tricks to use when making Greek Chicken Meatballs:

  • Use a cookie scoop. This is imperative! A cookie scoop ensures that the meatballs will all be uniform in size. This is important not just for presentation value, but also so all of the meatballs cook evenly. If some are bigger than others, they won’t cook all the way through at the same rate.
  • Don’t over-cook them. I feel like we all have a tendency to over-cook chicken. It’s easy to become untrustworthy of it! After 10-15 minutes of baking at 400°F, the meatballs should be fully cooked, especially if they’ve been rolled to the correct size of 2 TBSP. If you over-cook them, they’ll dry out very quickly.
  • Don’t be afraid to use your hands. I know… mixing raw meat with your hands can feel so weird, and dare I say even gross. But that’s what gloves are for! When you mix ground meat of any kind with your hands, you can really ensure that all of the ingredients are fully combined.

Storage and Reheating Instructions

These meatballs are actually pretty great for meal prepping because they reheat like a dream! To keep them fresh, let them first adjust to room temperature before transferring them to an airtight container. Be sure to store the in the refrigerator.

To reheat these chicken meatballs, I highly recommend using your stove-top as opposed to the microwave. While the microwave is easier, it does tend to dry out ground chicken in any form. Just pop the meatballs into a skillet and warm them over medium-low heat until they’re warmed all the way through.

What to Serve with Greek Chicken Meatballs

A traditional Greek salad is always a great choice, but you can bulk up your plate even more (and keep all the flavors you love) with a recipe like Greek Chicken Pasta Salad. Feel free to omit the chicken in that if you don’t want to double up the chicken on your plate, of course. Plain orzo and a sprinkle of feta cheese are also some great options to keep your meal Mediterranean flavored.
