A Pepperoni Dip Inspired by…Pizza!

A pizza dip without dough is just as tasty as the real pepperoni pizza. If you don’t want to wait to make the dough and go through all the fuss, this pizza dip is for you.

Once you bring this pepperoni dip out from the oven onto the appetizer table, you and your guests won’t be able to stop scooping from it. It is the perfect addition to any game day party or party in general. Instead of ordering a bunch of pizza, why not make an easy, cheesy pizza dip? This pepperoni pizz dip has two different types of cheeses, sour cream, and topped with everyone’s favorite pizza topping: pepperoni!

Pepperoni dip is perfectly paired with Crispy Grilled Chicken Wings and Homemade Mozzarella Sticks for the ultimate game day spread!

Variations and Recipe Tips

  • Add in your favorite pizza toppings! It doesn’t just have to be pepperoni. This pizza dip would be great with sliced black olives, Italian sausage, and chopped bell peppers. If you’re going to use ingredients that have a lot of liquid, like mushrooms, you’ll want to cook the mushrooms first to release the liquid then add it to the dip, otherwise, you’ll end up with a watery pizza dip!
  • Use a variety of dippers. This baked pizza dip is great served with pita chips, tortilla strips, fresh flour tortillas, toasted bread, and even vegetables like carrot sticks or celery.
  • Make sure cream cheese and sour cream are at room temperature or softened to blend smoothly and easily.
  • If possible, use whole milk mozzarella cheese and shred it yourself. It is so much creamier and melts so much better!

Storage and Reheating Instructions

If you have any pizza dip leftover, store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. To reheat, reheat the amount you want in a microwave-safe bowl until heated through.

I made this for Superbowl Sunday and it was a huge hit. I made it a little bit healthier by using low fat mozzarella, greek yogurt instead of sour cream and low fat cream cheese. It was delicious! My blog post on it here: http://project30in2012.wordpress.com/2013/02/05/fun-with-appetizers/ I know you swear by the whole fat cheese, but I really enjoyed the dip (as did the members of my church at our party!).
