How To Make Copycat Texas Roadhouse Rolls
Here is a general overview of the steps involved to make Texas Roadhouse rolls with honey cinnamon butter. Be sure to scroll to the bottom of this post for the full recipe.
Bloom the yeast. In the bowl of a stand mixer, combine the warm milk, yeast, and sugar. Stir gently and let it sit for 5-10 minutes until frothy. This indicates that the yeast is active. If it does not get frothy, pour it out and start over.
Add ingredients. Add in the flour, egg, melted butter and salt.
Make the dough. Using the dough hook, mix on medium speed for 7-19 minutes until the dough is smooth and elastic. It should pull away from the sides of the bowl. If it’s sticking to the sides, add in more flour.
Let it rise. Place the dough in a greased bowl and cover with plastic wrap. Let it rise for 1 hour or until doubled in size.
Roll the dough. Punch down the dough and transfer it to a lightly floured surface. Roll the dough into a rectangle that’s about half an inch thick. Fold the dough in half lengthwise.
Cut into rolls. Cut the dough into 3 even strips, then cut each of those strips into 8 individual rolls for 24 rolls total.
Let the rolls rise. Place the rolls on 2 baking sheets. Cover and let rise in a warm place for another 30-45 minutes.
Bake. Bake rolls at 350°F for 13-15 minutes until golden brown on top.
Butter the rolls. Immediately after removing the rolls from the oven, brush the tops with melted butter.
Make the honey cinnamon butter. Whisk together softened butter, powdered sugar, honey and cinnamon to make the honey cinnamon butter for serving.
Recipe Tips, Substitutions, and Variations
Here are just a few ways to get the best copycat rolls every single time!
- Measure with care. When it comes to baking, there’s not a whole lot of room for error. Make sure you measure every single ingredient with care!
- Bloom the yeast. Frothy yeast means that it’s active and ready to use. If it doesn’t get frothy, pour it out and start over. Note that your milk shouldn’t be heated over 115°F, because if it’s too hot it’ll kill the yeast.
- Let it rise. Don’t rush perfection, people! The dough will need time to rise two different times. First when it’s just a big ball, then again when you slice it into rolls. This is important – if you try to cut corners on time here, your rolls won’t be fluffy.
Storage and Reheating Instructions
Once cooled to room temp, you can store your copycat Texas Roadhouse rolls at room temperature for 2-3 days. Want to enjoy them warm? Zap them in the microwave for just about 10 seconds or use a toaster oven!
These rolls freeze well too! Allow the rolls to cool to room temperature then place in a freezer-safe bag and freeze for up to 2 months. To reheat, place onto a baking sheet and reheat in the oven or toaster oven until warmed through.

- ½ cup (114 g) unsalted butter, at room temperature
- ¼ cup (30 g) powdered sugar
- 2 tablespoons honey
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
Instructions
- In the bowl of a stand mixer, combine the warm milk, yeast and sugar. Stir gently and let it sit for 5-10 minutes, until frothy. This indicates that the yeast is active. If it does not get frothy, pour it out and start over. (Note: it’s essential not to heat the milk over 115 °F (46 °C), otherwise it will kill the yeast.)
- Add in the flour, egg, melted butter and salt.
- Mix, using the dough hook, on medium speed for 7-10 minutes, until the dough is smooth and elastic and pulls away from the sides of the bowl. If the dough is still sticking to the sides, add in a little more flour, 1 tbsp at a time.
- Place the dough in a greased bowl, turn to coat, and cover with plastic wrap or a clean towel. Let it rise in a warm place for 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
- Punch down the dough and transfer to a lightly floured surface. Roll out the dough into a rectangle about ½” thick. Fold the dough in half lengthwise.
- Cut the dough into 3 evenly-sized strips, then cut each of those strips into 8 individual rolls, for 24 rolls total.
- Place the rolls on 2 baking sheets. Cover and let rise in a warm place for another 30-45 minutes.
- Meanwhile, preheat oven to 350 °F (177 °C). Bake rolls for 13-15 minutes, until golden brown on top.
- Immediately after removing the rolls from the oven, brush the tops with melted butter.
- Optional: whisk together softened butter, powdered sugar, honey and cinnamon to make the honey cinnamon butter for serving. Serve warm.
