Add authentic Greek flavor to your meats and dishes with this homemade Greek Seasoning! It is ready to use in minutes and uses pantry spices that you already have.
Whenever I make Greek chicken souvlaki or Greek beef souvlaki, I immediately grab my Greek seasoning blend and douse the chicken and beef in this seasoning along with the rest of the marinade. It gives it so much flavor! It really brings boring dishes to life with the bright and vibrant spices that are in this seasoning blend.
While I love my usual go-to store-bought Greek seasoning blend, there is something about homemade that can’t compare. You know exactly what is going into it and there are absolutely no fillers! You can also choose to make a double or triple batch of this recipe to always have on hand as long as you store it properly.
What’s In Greek Seasoning?
Greek seasoning includes a blend of spices that are commonly used in Mediterranean cooking, including oregano, marjoram, basil, dill, and thyme. If you’re able to find dried citrus at the store (like orange peel) it brings a wonderful depth of flavor and distinct brightness to this homemade blend that can’t be replicated anywhere.
How to Use It and How Much to Use
A good rule of thumb for seasoning meat with Greek seasoning is using 2 tablespoons for every pound of meat.
If you’re making homemade pita chips, sprinkle a little bit of this seasoning on top before baking. I also really enjoy sprinkling a teaspoon into my homemade tzatziki dip for extra flavor.
Storage Instructions
Greek seasoning will be good for 1 year. It doesn’t go “bad,” but spices do lose their flavor intensity if being stored for an extended period of time. Make sure to store this seasoning blend in a cool, dry place.
