Getting a puppy is like having a baby. OBVIOUSLY I know it’s nothing like that in comparison but I’m saying in regards to buying all this stuff for your newest arrival. We literally just found out that we get to bring our puppy home in three weeks. We thought that we were going to have to wait until January or February for one so we haven’t even been thinking about anything puppy related. Well, turns out our breeder had a last-minute snafu with one of her customers and since we were next on the list, she asked if we wanted to take our pup in a few weeks. Um, yes!

We went to the pet store last night and I felt like I was buying stuff for a new baby. Everything in sight I wanted to get even if it was totally unnecessary. By the way, the laser engraving of the name tag is like the coolest thing I’ve ever seen, haha…we were so intrigued. Also, I had to call the vet’s office yesterday and I felt like I was talking about my brand new baby from all the questions they were asking me: “how many weeks old is it?” “what’s its name?” Haha, too funny! We are so so excited!! Gimme your best puppy training tips and the best things to buy! OH, do you dremel or clip your dog’s nails? I think we’re going the dremel route but I’m terrified it’s going to freak the dog out because that thing is so dang loud!

So every year, it’s the same deal for me. If it’s not October, you won’t see a new pumpkin recipe because there are FAR too many establishments out there that jump the gun on the pumpkin and by October (the real pumpkin month) we’re already gagging and wanting peppermint or something.

WELL. Since today is the first day of October, you get blessed with a pumpkin recipe. One that makes a whole ton of breakfast goodness that will last you all week. So you know, you can get your Fall on all week. 1. That pumpkin oatmeal looks amazing! I highly suggest crate training your puppy. It gives them a safe place, makes house raining easier, and you won’t have to worry about your puppy destroying your house while you are gone. Lupine collars, leashes, & harnesses have a lifetime warranty even if it is chewed, Blue Buffalo dog food is excellent (no fillers), and I would recommend staying away from rawhide bones- they make many dogs sick and sometimes can lead to choking if a large piece brakes off. I’ve trained my dogs using hand signals and short phrases and would suggest looking into it. In order to get them to sit, I hold up one finger. If I drop a piece of food, I tell them to “leave it” and “drop it” if they do pick it up. It has worked really well for my family. Clicker training is also very popular (Petsmart training does this). I can’t wait to see pictures of your new puppy!

  2. It actually is a lot like having a new baby to be honest! A lot. very exciting! and great looking oatmeal!

  3. Puppies throw your world upside down just as much as a baby! My advice, kennel train and it will make potty training much easier and faster. Yes, use a dremel! Our dog only tolerates that and it reduces the chance of clipping the quick.

  4. oopss i started pumpkin recipes 2 weeks ago but im trying to pace myself.. on a different note, im so excited that you guys will get your baby sooner!!! Bailey loves something called “Himayalan Chews” they are basically hard cheese so instead of a hyde or bones, i give her that and she loves it. Also, when you buy a leash, make sure to get the one with harness. im not a dog expert but if you have any questions, i m here…

  5. Totally agree on the whole pumpkin thing. It’s like bringing out Christmas in July! Ridiculous. This looks like the perfect way to kick off October. Can’t wait to see that cute puppy!
