On Monday night, a huge thunderstorm rolled through and it was a TON of rain. Shortly after the storm, we realized our internet had been knocked out. We couldn’t figure out why so we just kept restarting the router. Long story short, there’s an outlet in the garage that feeds our fiber optic wires into our house (I honestly don’t know the correct term for this), that outlet tripped. We went down there and pressed the reset button but every time we’d plug the unit back in, it’d trip again. So we eventually just ran an extension cord into the house. We’re hoping it’s the outlet that’s broken so it’s an easy Home Depot run to go fix it but if it’s cause moisture from the rain that is causing the unit to trip, then I guess we have bigger issues.

So, of course, when this all goes down and I’m thinking we have to replace the outlet. My first thought: electrocution. I have no idea how to do electrical and neither does Jason. I know you turn off the fuse/power that runs to the outlet but still, I hate electrical. My second thought: run to daddy. And I chose thought two. I immediately called up my dad, put on my most pathetic “help me” voice and asked if he could come over to help us out. Haha oh how I adore my parents. We decided instead of them driving over that night, for us to wait it out and see if the outlet works again. I think it’s funny how, when you’re young, your parents are the worst thing in the world. You absolutely loathe them 110% but when you’re all grown up, you realize how much you STILL need them and how they’re one of the best things to have in life. I seriously love my parents. Any frantic call from me and they’re over at our house in a couple hours to lend a hand.

Every morning before we leave for work, I put all the dry ingredients of my daily oatmeal into a glass bowl and heat it up with water at work. My typical bowl of oatmeal consists of: brown sugar, nuts, dried fruit, and chia seeds. It’s like a routine and I like it, BUT it does get rather boring sometimes. I mean, the same breakfast five days a week is kind of womp womp. So, I decided to bump it up a notch and make this maple bacon oatmeal! That pile of bacon..gahh it’s killing me. I just want to reach through the screen and devour it. So crispy, salty, and goooood. I’m a huge sweet/salty fan so I was definitely all over this and hopefully you will be to! It’s different than most oatmeal combinations but trust me, it’s really good and you’ll probably want it all week!

Maple Bacon Oatmeal

A salty sweet combination for your daily breakfast oatmeal!

Ingredients 

  • 3 strips bacon
  • 1 cup (234 g) quick cooking oatmeal, not rolled oats
  • 2 tablespoon maple syrup
  • 1 tablespoon sliced almonds

Instructions 

  • Cook bacon in a skillet until very crispy (or to whatever degree of crispiness/chewiness you like your bacon) then slice into fine pieces/crumbles.
  • Follow the instructions on the oatmeal package and cook your oatmeal to the way you like it. I like mine slightly runny but not too runny and not like concrete.
  • Drizzle maple syrup on top of oatmeal and sprinkle sliced almonds on top.
  • Top the oatmeal with bacon. Enjoy!

  2. Ugh… I hate when stuff like that happens. We had something like that happen but with our wireless and it was out for a whole week which in blog life feels like eternity!

    This oatmeal sounds like the perfect way to start EVERY morning!

  3. I don’t usually opt for oatmeal in the AM as I am more of a savory person… if I can have bacon on my oatmeal then consider me one of those oatmeal-lovin’ people.
