Garlic Fries are just like regular fries, only SO much better. Homemade french fries are oven baked to golden perfection before being tossed with oil, parsley, and as much garlic you’d like! This is the perfect side dish or snack!
I’ve yet to meet fries that fly off the plate as quickly as these bad boys. Garlic fries are exactly as addictive as you think they are! Fries are already impossible to eat just one of… And when they’re semi-homemade and tossed in a garlicky, herb-y oil mixture, they become irresistible! Be warned that these fries with garlic may just be more popular than whatever you serve them with, even if it’s my favorite Smash Burgers!
Why You’ll Love These Garlic Fries
I can’t think of any reasons not to love the combo of fries and garlic. Warning – you will be licking your fingers after enjoying a serving! Here’s why I’m so obsessed:
- Garlic. I mean… hello! This recipe is for who TikTok would call the garlic girls. As a garlic girl myself, I can’t help but add a little extra garlic in the mix!
- So easy. Homemade fries are so much easier to make than you may think, especially when using frozen fries.
- Baked. Baking fries is (in my opinion) way better than frying them! They still come out crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside. Plus, you don’t have to deal with a pot filled with hot oil when you’re done.
- Inexpensive. Frozen fries are all dressed up with garlic, vegetable oil, parsley, and a little salt and pepper. This is a great budget friendly recipe!
Ingredients for Garlic Fries
Here’s what you’ll need to make the very best garlic french fries! For exact measurements just head on down to the recipe card.
- Frozen fries – This makes garlic fries so easy. It’s semi-homemade and they’re just as good as real potatoes!
- Vegetable oil – This is used to toss the fries in both before and after they’re baked. You can also use olive oil too for more flavor, but be aware it doesn’t have a very high smoke point.
- Garlic – Fresh garlic is preferred for the very best flavor.
- Parsley – I love using fresh parsley in this recipe because of the flavor and aromatic element is brings. If you use dried parsley, note that it’s more potent so you won’t need as much.
- Salt and pepper – To taste!
How to Make Garlic Fries Step by Step
Look at how easy it is to make homemade garlic fries! For more detailed step-by-step instructions, just scroll down to the recipe card towards the bottom of the page.
- Prepare the fries. Dump the frozen fries into a large bowl and drizzle them with oil. Toss to coat and season with salt and pepper.
- Bake. Divide the fries between two baking sheets and make sure they’re in a single layer. Bake at 450°F for 30 minutes. Then, turn the heat up to 500°F and bake for another 5-7 minutes to brown.
- Mix the remaining ingredients. While the fries bake, combine the parsley, garlic and oil in a mixing bowl.
- Toss. Toss the fries and garlic mixture together to coat the fries. Serve immediately and enjoy!
Garlic Fries Variations
Here are a few ways you can really make these baked fries with garlic your own!
- You can use fresh potatoes. They may not be quite as easy, but they’ll definitely get the job done! To help get rid of the extra starch, soaking them in cold water will help. Just make sure to pat them really dry with a towel or paper towel to get off the excess moisture before you bake them.
- Even more garlicky goodness. If you really want to scare off any local vampires, add some garlic powder to the fries along with the salt and pepper. Want to be even fancier? Make a garlic butter and pour it on top!
- Add some cheese. Sprinkling parmesan cheese to make these garlic parmesan fries would be even better!
- Make poutine! Canada’s classic and this homemade poutine would be so good alongside these garlic fries.

FAQs
Two things – vegetable oil and turning up the heat! Vegetable has a high smoke point so it can tolerate the heat. Also, this recipe instructs you to bake the fries at 450°F for 30 minutes to cook them evenly and all the way through. After that we turn the heat up to 500°F just to brown them up and get them crispy for a few minutes.
You can! Just note that the flavor of pre-minced (jarred) garlic differs from freshly minced garlic. Also, you’ll want to drain the pre-minced garlic so it’s not too wet. No one wants soggy fries!
You absolutely can! Crank up the air fryer to 390°F and air fry them for 8-10 minutes, making sure to shake and check on them halfway through.
Storage Instructions
Wait for your garlic fries to totally cool to room temperature prior to storing in an airtight container in the fridge. Store for up to 3 days.
To reheat, I highly recommend using the air fryer or oven to maintain that amazing crispy consistency! Avoid microwaving fries if you can help it.

- 28 ounce (794 g) bag of frozen french fries
- ¼ cup (59 ml) vegetable oil, divided
- 5 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 handful of fresh parsley, finely minced
- Salt and pepper, to taste
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 450 °F (232 °C) and spray baking sheets with cooking spray. Set aside.
- In a large bowl, add the frozen fries and drizzle half the oil all over them and toss to coat the fries well.
- Divide up the fries on two baking sheets and bake for 20 minutes, or until browned and tender.
- After 10 minutes, increase the oven temperature to 500 °F (260 °C) and bake for another 7-10 minutes until they're crisp and brown.
- In the meantime, in another bowl, mix together the remaining oil, garlic, and parsley.
- Once the fries are done, using tongs, put the hot fries in the bowl with the garlic oil and toss to coat. Season with salt and pepper, to taste.

I made these so garlicky and loved them so much. The best fries ever!
I intended to make these as a side dish, but I liked them so much that I wound up making a meal of just them! The perfect crunch and I love the garlic flavor, delicious!
I have to say these garlic fries are just as good as the ones I had a the fancy steakhouse and they were so easy to make.

Oh my gosh, I can’t tell you how many times that has happened to me! Just yesterday I turned the oven up to 450 to bake burger buns and all then had to open the kitchen window because I knew the alarm would be going off soon. So annoying!
